Pain can be very debilitating. Very often, pain can be managed without having surgery. It is best practice for MD's to recommend and for patients to participate with conservative pain management prior to recommendations for surgery. Jody is certified in Graston instrument assisted techniques, dry needling and other manual/soft tissue techniques to manage pain.
Dry needling is a safe and effective technique used to treat muscle tissue and its goal is to reduce pain, inactivate trigger points and restore function. It rarely is a stand alone procedure. It is often part of a broader physical therapy approach incorporating other traditional physical therapy interventions into treatment. Dry needling is a procedure performed by skilled, trained physical therapists, certified in the procedure. A very thin monofilament needle penetrates the skin and treats underlying muscular trigger points by inactivating them for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments.
Graston Technique is a form of manual therapy known as soft-tissue instrument-assisted mobilization. It is one of a number of manual therapy approaches that uses instruments with a specialized form of massage which is used to break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions that are usually associated with some form of trauma to the soft tissue. It is also used to reduce restrictions by stretching connective tissue in an attempt to rearrange the structure of the soft tissue being treated.
If you have a pool and weather permits, aquatic therapy is a great way to start treatments as well as to do in conjunction with land treatments. Pain is much more tolerant when unweighted by the water and this enables increased participation and improved mobility.
